Spectrum of Grace
One grace. Many colours. One light.
Grace runs through the whole of Scripture. It is revealed in the gift of life, in God’s mercy and faithfulness, in forgiveness, care and the possibility of restoration. Throughout the biblical story we see God turning towards people, sustaining them and inviting them into a meaningful life in relationship with Him and with one another.
Spectrum of Grace is an interdenominational educational ministry. Our aim is to unfold the richness of grace in the light of Scripture, to help people discover the Jewish roots of the Christian faith, and, through dialogue with the Jewish tradition, to understand more deeply what we believe.
One grace — one unbroken story
We seek to present grace as a continuous thread running through all of Scripture. God’s mercy is present from the very beginning of the biblical story: in the way He addresses people, in His patience, in His faithfulness to His promises and in His readiness to give the chance to return and start again.
Grace touches both our inner life and our actions. Forgiveness received teaches us to forgive. Care experienced helps us notice the needs of others. God’s faithfulness moves us to become more trustworthy in our relationships. By exploring Scripture, we want to understand more deeply how this gift shapes a person and unfolds in everyday life.
The roots of faith — depth of understanding
The Christian faith grew up in the Jewish world. The language of Scripture and its ideas of God, covenant, mercy, holiness and responsibility are bound up with this heritage. Getting to know it helps us understand more deeply the meaning of the texts and the foundations of our own faith.
That is why discovering these roots lies at the heart of our ministry. When we learn the historical context, the distinctive features of biblical thinking and Jewish approaches to reading Scripture, familiar words take on greater depth. We begin to notice connections that used to escape us, to frame our questions more precisely and to speak about our convictions more thoughtfully.
Dialogue with the Jewish perspective broadens our understanding. It helps us see how the biblical texts are read within a tradition that has studied their language for centuries, discussed their meaning and connected them with life. Such an encounter calls for respect, attentive listening and a readiness to learn.
We consider this educational work important: knowing the roots makes faith more conscious, nurtures gratitude for the Jewish heritage and lays a foundation for respectful relationships between Christians and Jews.
Many colours — the richness of encounter
The image of a spectrum expresses the value of different perspectives. People come with different experiences and cultures and belong to different Christian denominations. Each may notice something in the text that another has not yet seen.
We create a space where people can explore Scripture, ask questions and broaden their understanding of their faith. The Jewish perspective has a special place here, helping us draw closer to the world in which the biblical texts took shape.
At the same time, we acknowledge the differences between Judaism and Christianity. Honesty about these matters makes it possible to build a dialogue in which participants keep their convictions and treat one another with respect.
One light — a shared point of reference
Scripture is the foundation of our educational work. We seek to read it as a whole, to take its language and context into account, and to explore the meaning of key concepts and the connection between faith and life.
It matters to us that study bears fruit: that it helps a person understand God better, be more attentive to their neighbour and live more responsibly. Depth of knowledge shows itself in depth of relationships too.
A bridge of dialogue and friendship
Our shared biblical root gives us a basis for meeting. We want to foster acquaintance between Christians and Jews through study, open conversations and human friendship.
Such a bridge is built gradually — through trust, respect for what is holy to the other and genuine interest in their experience. We want our conversation about grace to find expression in the very way we relate to one another.
The nature of our ministry
Spectrum of Grace is exclusively educational in its focus and brings together people from different denominations. We hold Bible studies, lectures, conversations and meetings devoted to grace, the Jewish roots of the Christian faith and interreligious dialogue.
Founding new congregations is not among the aims or goals of our ministry. Participants remain members of their existing congregations and traditions, and the knowledge they gain can enrich their personal faith and the life of their communities.
Our mission is to reveal grace throughout Scripture, to deepen the understanding of faith through its Jewish roots, and to build relationships of dialogue, respect and friendship.
